As organizations changed their communication and connectivity to handle employees working from home, hackers also targeted and changed the nature of their attacks as well. As loan programs and other economic assistance programs were created to help during the pandemic, hackers targeted them for fraud. How do the good guys stay ahead of the attacks? During this webinar we will look at intelligence gathering techniques and research directly from the dark web that can be used to help get ahead of the threats and understand better how hackers target, and develop new opportunities.

Tom Richards, Chief Strategy Officer GroupSense

⁠⁠Tom is a co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of GroupSense and has played a vital role in shaping the company’s vision and executing on its market growth strategies. With 15 years experience in the industry, Tom successfully led the creation of Tracelight, the GroupSense analysis engine, and continues to oversee the company’s overall strategies in this new decade. During his time at GroupSense Tom has helped to grow the business 65% year over year, been awarded a patent for the proprietary GroupSense technology Tracelight, and has been featured in Washington Post and New York Times for his research in foreign misinformation campaigns designed to influence US elections. 

 





Paulo Shakarian, Ph.D., CEO and Co-Founder of CYR3CON 

Paulo Shakarian, Ph.D. is CEO and Co-Founder of Cyber Reconnaissance, Inc., (CYR3CON) which specializes in combining artificial intelligence with information mined from malicious hacker communities to avoid cyberattacks. He has written numerous articles in scientific journals and has authored several books, including Elsevier’s Introduction to Cyber-Warfare and Cambridge’s Darkweb Cyber Threat Intelligence Mining. Shakarian was named a “KDD Rising Star,” received the Air Force Young Investigator award, received multiple “best paper” awards and has been featured in major news media outlets such as CNN and The Economist. He currently holds a tenured faculty position at Arizona State University and previously held a faculty position at West Point. Earlier in his career, Paulo was an officer in the U.S. Army where he served two combat tours in Iraq, earning a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for Valor. During his military career, Paulo also served as a DARPA Fellow and as an advisor to IARPA. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a B.S. in computer science from West Point (with a Depth of Study in Information Assurance).
